First Animé Apperance: Episode 21
First Manga Apperance: Chapter 36
Personality: Hiro is (as firstly seen in the animé and
manga) a rude, stubborn, selfish, cold and sarcastic kid (which have brung
hate upon him by many fans). But Hiro has a nice side he only shows Kisa,
and in his weakest moments to Tohru: He is caring, sweet, sensitive, protective
and very devoted and loyal to the ones he care for. He is often worried about
those whom he loves (which he shows toward both Kisa and Rin).
Hiro is somewhat hot-tempered and sometimes speak without thinking.
This have made Kisa sad sometimes, but Hiro is starting to take a notice
of this and in my opinion, he has become more mature and more careful
what he says around Kisa.
An another thing that is both good and bad about Hiro, is his smartness.
He is smart, and very intelligent. But sometimes, he uses this in a bad
way. Making him look like a smart-ass and really striking some sarcastic
comments.
Hiro/Kisa (SPOILER WARNING!): Hiro and Kisa are friends since
childhood and always played together. As most Sohmas, they have difficulty
getting friends outside the clan, so they only had each other. But when
Hiro became older, his feelings for Kisa developed into something greater;
he falls in love with her. Love was a new feeling to Hiro, and he was so
enthusiastic and, without knowing better, told Akito.
Akito, not wishing that any of the Sohmas should have any romantic
relationships with ANYONE, became furious when Hiro said "I love Kisa"
(Daisuki, which means Love VERY much.). In the manga, Akito looked up Kisa
and beat her so sore she had to be at the hospital for two weeks 'til she
healed again. In the animé, Akito pushed Kisa into a wall. In the
manga, Hiro was traumized and hated himself for hurting Kisa, and in the
animé, he felt ashamed and hated himself for hurting Kisa.
Hiro avoided Kisa for a while, not daring to face her. The bullying
toward Kisa became worser, but Hiro kept avoiding her, and it threw Kisa
into depression and she became mute for a while.
In the manga, Hiro and Kisa seem to be canon. In the character guide,
it stands that they're friends but lovers underneath. Probably this means
that either Hiro & Kisa act like friends in public (fear of Akito),
or they havent confessed their feelings to each other yet.
Hiro/Rin (SPOILER WARNING!): Hiro and Rin was a questioned
relationship before. In the manga, Hiro was the one who saw Rin when she
was thrown out of a balcony by Akito. He was the one who visited Rin at
the hospital. He was the one who constantly made sure Rin was okay. But
Hatsuharu wasn't really fond of Hiro's constantly caring about Rin, it
made him wondering if Hiro had developed a crush on Rin or something (Adding
to the Hiro/Kisa section, when Hatsuharu asked Hiro that, Kisa seemed
to be a bit depressed about it ^_~.). Hiro became really offended and strongly
said NO. But I don't blame Hatsuharu for believing Hiro had a crush on Rin,
it's rare for Hiro to care about anyone, and if he does, he is completely
devoted and committed. He's such a sweetie ;).
Sakura Dragon's Comments: Obviously, Hiro is my #1 favourite
character in Fruits Basket. Being the empathic and sympathic person I
am, when I first read chapter 36 and 37 (keep in mind that I read the
manga before the animé), I felt so sorry for Hiro. Hiro had so
many issues to deal with, and had to deal with horrible events at such
a young age, no wonder why he's so cynical and cold. I love Hiro's warm
and caring side too, he truly has a pure heart made of gold.
I have to sadly throw a shoe at some in the Fruits Basket fandom;
either they ignore him, pretending he isn't a jyuunishi and never include
him in character lists/jyuunishi lists/so on, because obviously they hate
him (and being a lot like Hiro, I kind of take that personally and can say
I don't like you either then!). And if he IS included, people just bash him
(can people GET more superficial and shallow?). And do not take that as "You
MUST love Hiro or I'll stab you!", I just want to say that people should
give him a chance, and not bash him. I find it highly pointless to get mad
at a made up person. "If you do not have anything nice to say about a person,
then don't say anything!".
Hiro is cool in my book. ^_^b
